Auto Insurance

Every day we get into our cars to go to work.  We open our car door, put the key in the ignition, hear the motor warm up and off we go.  We go through these motions never once thinking that we won’t make it to our destination without getting into an accident.  However, most of us know that if we do have an accident, we’re “covered.”

But what does being “covered” mean?  Does it matter who “covers” us, or is it enough that you are just plain “covered?”

The answer is YES — it matters how you’re covered, who you’re covered by, and how much you’re covered.

At Corrigan, we take being “covered” very seriously.  We know that our clients rely on us protecting them from financial loss do to an accident.  We help our customers determine which coverage plan is right for them based on income and eligibility.  (see Factors That Determine Eligibility)
At Corrigan, our clients have 24/7 access to high quality and efficient claims service, industry-driven, competitive auto insurance discounts, a service that helps our customers make sure that their coverage keeps up with their life changes through the years.  This service periodically reassess your current policy and compares them to other policies offered to make sure you are subscribing to the best policy for your life situation.

Auto Coverage Protection

If you have an accident or get injured in an accident, auto insurance protects you against financial loss whether it be repair/replacement costs of the cars involved or other property, or medical costs of the victims involved.  By paying a premium (a specified ongoing payment), you are entered in to a contractual agreement with the insurance company, in which in if an accident occurs, the insurance company agrees to pay your losses as identified in your contract/policy.

When you purchase car insurance, you are actually buying what is known as an insurance policy.  Your policy is actually made up of different types of insurance coverage and is based on a variety of factors that range from what kind of car you drive to the kind of coverage you are looking for.
At Corrigan, we offer a full spectrum of coverage. But before you choose a policy, it’s best to understand the different aspects to each policy.  In order to help you choose the right one for you, let’s go over the different kinds of coverage we offer:

Liability coverage

Liability coverage pays for accidental bodily injury and property damages to others if you are responsible for an accident. Bodily injury damages include medical expenses, pain and suffering, legal expenses, and lost wages. Property damage includes damaged property and automobile damage and pays defense and court costs. State laws govern how much liability coverage you must purchase, however, you can always buy more coverage than you’re required.  It is a good idea to purchase enough of this insurance to cover the amount of damage your car might do to another vehicle or object.

Comprehensive coverage

Comprehensive coverage pays losses or damages to your vehicle that hasn’t been in an auto accident. Examples of these types of damages include: loss caused by fire, wind, hail, flood, vandalism, or theft.

Collision coverage

Collision coverage pays for damages to your vehicle caused by collision with another vehicle or object.  This kind of coverage may be required when leasing or financing a vehicle.

Uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage

Uninsured Motorist Coverage pays your car's damages when an auto accident is caused by a driver who doesn't have liability coverage.   Underinsured Motorist Coverage pays your car's damages when an auto accident is caused by someone who has insufficient liability insurance.  In both cases, if an injury occurs, this coverage will help pay your and your passengers’ medical costs if an accident is caused by an uninsured or underinsured driver.  In addition, this coverage may also pay for lost wages and other damages, but the rules that govern the coverage vary from state-to-state.

Medical expenses

Medical Coverage - Pays medical expenses (cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation, and sometimes lost wages and funeral expenses) regardless of fault when the expenses are caused by an auto accident.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Personal Injury Protection (PIP) is required in some states pays medical expenses for the insured driver and their passengers in the event of an accident, regardless of fault.

 Loss of income

Helps pay lost wages due to injuries from an automobile accident. This type of coverage can be especially important if you do not already have short-term or long-term disability benefits from another source.

Rental reimbursement

Rental Reimbursement Coverage will pay for a rental car or any other form of transportation, if your car is damaged due to an auto accident. In most cases, this coverage has a per diem for a rental car.

Towing and labor
